Membership Fee

– Message from the Bishop and the Parish Priests

The obligation to pay a membership fee applies to every Catholic in Finland who has reached the age of 18.* The fee is the same in all parishes and is paid monthly into the parish’s membership fee account. The amount of the membership fee is 1.5 percent of the monthly taxable income.

The obligation to pay the membership fee is based on § 7 of the Church’s community statutes: “It is the duty of a member of the community to support the community and its parish through voluntary contributions and to pay a membership fee, the amount of which is determined by the head of the community.”

*) If, due to one’s financial situation, it is impossible to pay the membership fee, one may request a temporary exemption. The exemption is granted by the parish priest on the basis of a freely formulated application. The obligation to pay the membership fee does not apply to those whose annual income is below 15,000 euros.
