The Pastoral Centre, which began its activities in 2026, brings together many of the functions previously carried out within the diocese. Its purpose is to serve and support parishes and the faithful in various ways. In addition, the Pastoral Centre is responsible for safeguarding training in the Diocese of Helsinki.
The following areas of responsibility are brought together within the Pastoral Centre: new evangelisation, catechesis (sacramental preparation), religious education (schools), publications, media (Fides, radio and television programmes, social media), and liturgy. Each area has its own person in charge or coordinator. The overall work of the Pastoral Centre is directed by its Executive Director, Meisa Dano.
The Centre also includes a shop offering books and devotional items, continuing and expanding the work of the Catholic Bookshop (Visit an external site. The link opens in a new tab.). The Pastoral Centre replaces and complements the former Catholic Information Centre (publications department) and the Catechetical Centre (education department).
