Reporting Abuse
The Diocese of Helsinki follows official guidelines for the investigation of abuse cases. Any suspected abuse should be reported without delay to the Diocesan Curia or directly to Father Martti Savijoki SCJ. Suspicions of abuse are addressed on behalf of the Church by a dedicated safeguarding committee appointed by the Bishop of Helsinki (see below).

Tasks
Develop and Implement Prevention Policies
Create clear guidelines and protocols to prevent abuse, including codes of conduct for staff and volunteers.
Training and Education
Organize regular training sessions for staff, volunteers, and families on recognizing signs of abuse, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and reporting procedures.
Create Safe Environments
Ensure that all activities and facilities promote child safety and reduce risks — including appropriate supervision and secure premises.
Reporting and Response Protocols
Establish a confidential and accessible system for reporting suspected abuse. Define clear procedures for handling reports in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
Support for Victims
Offer emotional and psychological support to children and families affected by abuse, and refer them to professional services when necessary.
Collaboration with Authorities
Maintain open communication with child protection services, law enforcement, and legal authorities to ensure proper case management.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Regularly assess the effectiveness of prevention and response measures, and update policies as needed.
Promote Awareness and Advocacy
Raise awareness within the church community about abuse prevention and promote a culture of zero tolerance.
